As we approach the end of 2024, I stumbled upon an Instagram post that said, “The jump from 2019 to 2024 is so violent.” Honestly, I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry about this — and then I nodded. Because let’s face it, we’ve all felt that jump! The past five years have been a rollercoaster of challenges, surprises, and changes no one could have predicted. It’s been overwhelming at times, but it’s also been a chance to grow, adapt, and prove just how resilient we all are.

Here at Linguist Education Online (LEO), this year has reminded me of the incredible power of our community. Together, we’ve tackled the twists and turns of the language industry, continuing to deliver top-notch training, testing, and resources for language professionals. Whether it’s through providing our courses, language proficiency testing, continuing education opportunities, developing tailored courses, or having collaborative discussions, our mission has always been to empower linguists with the tools they need to succeed. 

What really stands out to me is the way our community shows up for each other — sharing knowledge, supporting peers, and always looking for ways to learn and grow. It’s inspiring and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together! 

One of my favorite ways we’ve built this community is through our LEO events, both conferences and webinars. These aren’t just events — they’re where the magic happens, a “hub” for language professionals, as many attendees call it. They’re places to share ideas, tackle challenges, and spark those “aha!” moments that move us all forward. Our upcoming conference in June is going to be no exception. I can’t wait to see the connections, learning, and inspiration that come out of it as we gear up for 2025. 

And let’s talk about 2025 for a second. It’s going to be a big year. The language industry is evolving faster than ever — new regulations, mind-blowing technologies, and, of course, Artificial Intelligence shaking things up. Change can be intimidating, sure, but it can also be exciting! It’s a chance to rethink how we work, strengthen our connections, and create something better together. At LEO, we’re here to support you through it all, and we’re eager to hear your ideas and insights as we shape this future together. 

But let’s not stop there — this isn’t just about our work. It’s about making an impact that lasts. 2025 will need people who believe in the power of small actions to make big changes. Speak up for better language access. Lift the people around you up. Push for new ideas and better practices. Those small steps ripple outward, creating waves that transform not just our industry but the world. 

So, let’s head into the new year with energy, connection, and action. Be bold. Stay curious. Keep building those bridges that bring people together and make understanding possible.
