A Comprehensive Guide to Interpreting in Special Education Settings within the Public School System (2 parts)
Description: Gain a deeper understanding of the differences between an advocate and an interpreter, and learn the do’s and don’ts of interpreting in special education settings. Determine whether consecutive or simultaneous modality is more appropriate in certain situations and understand the procedural safeguards that are in place to protect students with special needs. The presenter will provide invaluable insight into the fundamentals of different types of meetings, including Annual and Triennial IEPs, Initial Assessments, and 504 plans. She will also provide examples of the jargon and acronyms commonly used by professionals involved in each of these meetings. After this training, you will have a solid foundation to work as an interpreter in a special education setting and help bridge the communication gap between educators and families.
